The ear, nose and throat

investigation procedure

Taking a general medical history, reviewing previous illnesses.

Several ear, nose and throat examinations may be needed to make an accurate diagnosis. The specific tests used depend on the symptoms and the suspected condition. The most common tests:

Ear tests

Fül:

examination of the external auditory canals, eardrums with an otoscope. Ear cleaning, suctioning if necessary. (Hearing) test using a tuning fork and/or tympanometer.

Orr tests

Orr:

external nasal configuration and sensitivity to tapping over the sinuses. If necessary, a sinus X-ray is performed. Nasal speculum - if necessary, endoscopy (rhinoscopy) - endonasal (inside the nose) examination, aspiration of secretions, culture, secretion sampling.

Throat tests

Torok:

an overview of the oral cavity, examination of the pharyngeal formations with a tongue depressor, examination of the tonsils and their expression, and examination of the pharynx (epipharynx). If secretions are expressed from the tonsils or their residues (residuum), or if there is a suspicion of a nodal disease, then the tonsils are always sampled for culture.

Laryngeal tests

Larynx:

will only be examined after prior information, as this examination requires the patient's cooperation. If it fails, we will try again under local anaesthesia. The pharynx (epipharynx) is also examined in the same way.

Investigating dizziness

Otoneurological examination:

Otoneurology is the examination of the organ of balance, the diagnosis of symptoms associated with dizziness.

Finally, the neck, parotid regions, cervical lymph nodes are palpated.
