Why is carbon dioxide laser the best for skin resurfacing?

Because the only chromophore (target molecule) present in all epithelial cells is water. In other cases (e.g. laser treatment of broom veins, or treatment of sun-induced brown spots), a more specific chromophore (e.g. haemoglobin or melanin) may be chosen to achieve a more selective effect, but for epithelial cells a more selective target molecule is not needed.
Many people use Erbium YAG lasers for resurfacing because of the above reasoning, because Erbium YAG has a wavelength closer to the excitation wavelength of a water molecule, but also less modulation than a carbon dioxide laser.

Other aesthetic centres use different laser(s). Why is theCO2RElaser better?

Nowadays, fractional ultra high speed scanning carbon dioxide lasers are very common, and the CandelaCO2RElaser used at Secret Medical is one of the most popular. As we have already pointed out, it is so much more and different than other aesthetic lasers that it cannot be compared. This machine is currently the top of the range, and in professional hands it can work wonders!

Is laser facial treatment safe?

Your concern is understandable, as we are talking about a direct burn, but you need not be afraid. Treatment is fully controlled and targeted, and recovery is relatively quick and painless. What's more, the machine is FDA-certified, guaranteeing safety.

Do you have side effects?

It's more like a natural skin recuperation, but yes, it is, so it's worth taking a few days off to recover. More on this in theCO2REafter laser facials section.

When isCO2RElaser facial treatment contraindicated?

Fractionated carbon dioxide laser treatment is not performed under the age of 18, nor during pregnancy or breastfeeding. In addition, laser surgery should not be used as a cosmetic procedure if the following problems exist:

  • while taking retinol (you should stop taking roacutane, accutane, consult your doctor)
  • in case of active infection
  • for acutely sun-damaged skin (immediately after a holiday/solarium)
  • for extremely thin skin
  • Hialuronic acid / botox after 6 weeks

IsCO2RElaser facial painful?

Before the treatment, the area is numbed with an anaesthetic cream, so you may experience a slight discomfort at most. After the treatment, however, you may experience some of the more mild discomfort typical of burns (tight, stretchy, itchy skin due to regeneration), but this is completely tolerable and will disappear within days.

Do I need to take care of my skin at home after the laser treatment?

Yes: for the first 3 days, you need a lot of lotion and constant moisturising and sunscreen! You can also ice the treated area and, from the third day, you can do a short soak in 5% borated water. Continuous hydration and sun protection are necessary until full regeneration.

How it takes place

theCO2REablative laser facial treatment?

how co2re laser facial treatment works
  1. 1.
    Specialist medical consultation
As this is a specialised laser treatment, it can only be performed by a Candela-trained doctor, so you will consult your doctor from the first time you come in. During the consultation, your suitability will be assessed, your medical history will be taken and your ideas and treatment options will be discussed.
  2. 2.
    Treatment
Before the laser treatment, the area to be treated is lubricated with an anaesthetic cream, then thoroughly disinfected and wiped dry. We'll take care to protect your hair (an important step, especially for men) and you'll need to take off your jewellery for the duration of the treatment. The laser treatment takes 10-20 minutes depending on the area, up to 20 minutes for a full face. Then ice the treated area.
  3. 3.
    AfterCO2RElaser facial treatment
TheCO2RElaser aesthetic treatment has a very strong skin reaction, as it is a controlled artificial burn. For this reason, it is recommended to take 3-4 days off after the treatment and stay at home in a quiet environment. So it's a good idea to have your treatment on a Thursday or Friday and take a weekend off your schedule so you can recover in peace.
The first day after the treatment, the worst skin reactions are visible: intense redness, scaly tissue, oedema (swelling), small, blotchy clots. After that, the condition of the epithelium improves day by day until it is about. a 7. By the end of the day, only minimal colour differences will be visible. You can expect full regeneration in 2 weeks, and after 8 weeks the tissues will reach maximum repair.
The recovery period is not particularly painful, but it does require extra care! The treated area (up to the entire face) should be constantly creamed (cicaplast) for the first 3 days, and constant hydration and sunscreen are required. You can also ice the treated area. From the third day onwards, a short soak with 5% borage water can be done and further continuous hydration and sunscreen is required until full recovery. Sleeping in a semi-recumbent position is recommended for the first 2-3 days to avoid mechanical damage (rubbing, pressure) to the treated area!
Your doctor will of course inform you about this.
  4. 4.
    Treatment combination
TheCO2REablative laser facial treatment for stretch marks with the Frax Pro non-ablative laser provides effective results. And it is an integral part of our complex wrinkle-firming, firming treatment programmes. We can only repeat ourselves: unbeatable!
